Dive Leadership -- Why SSI

SSI Dive Leader DiveLogs

An organizational tool for Instructors & Dive Control Specialists...

Your accomplishments can be recorded, organized and at your fingertips. The SSI Dive Leader DiveLog helps you chart your progress and navigate toward your professional goals. The DiveLog keeps you organized by:

  • maintaining a record of all leadership training
  • tracking how many people you've certified
  • tracking the training dives you've done
  • organizing emergency management plans for all your training sites
  • storing risk management information and accident/incident reporting forms
  • storing important SSI information at your fingertips

What Every Dive Leader Should Know

The delivery of quality education requires four players which are defined by SSI's Education Diamond. Remove any element of the Diamond and quality education cannot be accomplished.

  • Diver
Divers who commit to scuba as a long-term recreational activity provide a source of customers for the diving industry. Proper development of long-term divers by Instructors, Dealers and SSI is crucial to the long-term health of our sport.
  • Instructor
Professional, caring Instructors interact with students and create divers. They are the critical link to ensuring that SSI's Philosophy and Standards are implemented successfully in the Dealer's scuba school.
  • Dealer
Full-service Dealers provide a scuba school (facilities and training equipment) as well as equipment sales and service, organized diving opportunities (both locally and abroad), a source of information and a sense of community, all on a long-term basis.
  • SSI
SSI provides: Training Standards, general parameters for training; an Education System with programs and products; and an Education Philosophy which determines the type of student produced.

The SSI Difference
Becoming an SSI Dive Leader is as simple as 1-2-3.

  • 1. Study your academic materials at home.
By studying your materials at home, before attending the training course, you will utilize your time better. This will also allow you to get the most from the course.
  • 2. Attend your training course.
SSI training programs are active learning environments in which you will focus on the practical application of real-world skills and role-playing exercises. When you graduate, you will possess the dive business knowledge and skills to be a successful professional in a retail or resort business.
  • 3. Get a job and teach!
Because SSI Instructors know the industry, the dive business, how to sell trips and equipment, and how to produce comfortable, confident divers, SSI Instructors are extremely marketable and highly sought after. This website features at job search database that will help you find a dealer that is looking for your special talents. You can even post your resume on the SSI website so that SSI Dealers can easily find you.
